Location

Ascog Farm is situated in a beautiful secluded position 300 metres from the Ascog shore on the Isle of Bute, Scotland.

Directions

From Glasgow City Centre or the Airport either:

  • Take the M8 west for Greenock and continue heading west for Wemyss Bay. Take the Wemyss Bay – Rothesay ferry (CalMac) to the Isle of Bute. On arrival in Rothesay turn left off the pier and continue following the coast road (A844, Mount Stuart Road) for 2.8 miles. Having passed Ascog Bay with its attractive church continue another 500 yards or so and immediately after the national speed limit sign turn right up Balmory Road. Follow this road round the bend to the left at the top of the hill then turn immediately right through the gates signed Ascog Farm. OR
  • Take the M8 west to Junction 30 for the M898 over the Erskine Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on the A898 (signs for Glasgow/Crianlarich/A82/A898). Continue to follow the A82 for 25 miles going through Dumbarton, past Alexandria and skirting the shores of Loch Lomond. At Arrochar proceed through the village before following the A83 (signs for A83/Campbeltown) for approximately 10 miles. Then take the A815 (signs for Strachur/Dunoon/Bute ferry) for 9.5 miles before picking up the A886 (signs for Colintraive) at Strachur. Continue on to Colintraive to catch the Colintraive – Rhubodach Ferry (CalMac). Once on Bute turn left off the slip and follow the coast on the A886 to Rothesay. From Rothesay continue as above to Ascog Farm.

Both routes take approximately 1hr 45mins (including boats) and are equally scenic. It’s a good idea to come in one direction and go back in the other!
