At Ascog Farm we have tried hard to develop our renewable energy potential.
Previous efforts have focused on:
- Wind Energy
Working with Community Energy Scotland and with the support of the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) we submitted a planning application for three Enercon E48 wind turbines on the farm in 2012. Sadly, and on the basis of visual appearance alone, our plans were rejected both by Argyll & Bute Council and at appeal. The wind has not stopped blowing over the land though, and Ascog Farm remains an excellent site for wind energy generation… - Solar Energy
Having failed in our attempt to build a community-benefit wind farm at Ascog we were, in 2014, successful in our application for a ca.2.5 acre, 250kW, solar photovoltaic (PV) array. In the event, and following the UK government’s short-sighted decision to significantly reduce Feed in Tariffs (FiTs) for the nascent solar industry, the array was never built. The sun has not stopped shining over the land though, and Ascog Farm remains an excellent site for solar energy generation…
